Award-winning photographer Robbie Quinn’s Street Unicorns showcases fashion and wisdom from style rebels in New York City and beyond.
In a world where stores, clothes, and trends have become increasingly standardized, fashion is one of the most powerful ways to explore and express our personalities, identities, and individuality. For years, renowned photographer Robbie Quinn has come across style rebels and bold expressionists on the streets of NYC and the world’s largest cities, stopping them for impromptu photoshoots and testimonials. He’s even given these eccentric lovers of style a name: Street Unicorns.
In these pages, Quinn shares the portraits, viewpoints, and aspirations of more than 250 Street Unicorns with the hopes of inspiring readers to rediscover the most authentic parts of themselves. A vibrant declaration against ageism, racism, homophobia, and all other discriminations, this book is a love letter to those who aren’t afraid to stand out, embrace nonconformity, and share who they are with the world.

Fabulous photography & Concept
“Street Unicorns” book is one of the best fashion books I have seen! Being a “Street Unicorn” myself and having been photographed by the great Robbie Quinn( not in this book since I met him after it came out), I find the people he chose to photograph so inspirational. He has a great eye and knows how to capture them in a way that conveys JOY! The whole book is joy filled, fun, colorful, and exciting. His subjects are all fascinating. His mission is to show that diversity and originality is to be celebrated! All ages too! He is inspired and know that this book is already on many coffee tables and will continue to spread around the world for years to come and inspire people to feel free to experiment and express themselves more freely! Bravo!

A celebration of individualists!
As a transplanted New Yorker, I miss the bold personalities I’d meet in the West Village, men and women who cared less about the latest fashion but chose instead to express their creativity and artistic vision in how they presented themselves to the world. What Robbie Quinn has done here goes beyond stunning photographs of these iconic free spirits, but through thoughtful copy, he introduces the person (and the personality) behind the outfits. As much a celebration of diversity and individualism, Street Unicorns is a Valentine to the city of New York and its vibrant, intriguing citizens.

As good as it gets
Robbie Quinn’s collection of images is simply excellent. I have this book in a section of my house with some of the biggest names in portrait photography to ever live. Rodney Smith, Albert Watson, Annie Leibovitz, Robbie Quinn. And Robbie’s book belongs as much as any of the others. Brilliant and whimsical, with a small bit of information about each subject. All of a style, but still very diverse. Like all great photography, you linger on a page, not wanting to turn it, but for wanting to see the next one. I couldn’t be happier to own it. And bravo to you, Robbie Quinn.

Fashion NYC book
This book is cheaper than the one I saw at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Then I immediately decided to place an order for it on Amazon. This book represents the development and fashion trends of New York. I like this book very much. It is also a great decorative item. I really love it.

Street people
Great photos of extravagant street people. I love fashion forward people expressing themselves through outfits. This book has captured some great examples of individuality in fashion.

Delightful!
Fantastic book of stylish, uniquely dressed individuals that he finds on the streets of NYC. As a fellow photographer, I can’t help but notice the complementary lighting, unique posing, and the excellent compositions. But most of all, you can feel the connection he makes with his subjects. I loved this book, highly recommended!

Interesting and fun.
I liked the book. I would have liked more women in it, but it was a fun read/look at the way people think about fashion. I wish more people would let their inner peacocks flutter, but culture has a lock down on what is appropriate and what is not. We need to break that chain, and these people do just that.

Best Dressed Book of the Year. And so much more…
As previous reviews have mentioned, STREET UNICORNS bursts with style, color, and energy. And brilliantly so. But on a deeper level this book is a manifesto about being true to yourself, society’s expectations and gender norms be damned. On every page you’ll meet people who choose to express who they are through the clothes they wear.In his photos, Robbie Quinn captures not only their style but also their spirit. Accompanying the photos are revealing quotes that show the unicorns possess just as much substance as style. What they have to say will inspire you to be yourself.More than anything else, STREET UNICORNS sparks light and joy in a time of darkness and gloom. This book is just what we need right now!

I ordered this book after seeing Robbie’s work on Instagram and also because I am also photographing portraits of strangers for my own project. I deliberately worked my way through it slowly and used it as a source of inspiration for my own work. Highly recommended to anybody who is in to photography or fashion, or who just wants to brighten up their life.

Street Unicorns is full of wonderful photography and perhaps more surprisingly (for me) it of full of inspiration encouraging us to embrace difference and live our best lives. I thought I was buying a book about fashion, style and colour and I quickly understood that I was also learning about authenticity and courage. Like many people I worry about how I will be perceived by others and, in contrast, this book features people who are determined to overcome vulnerability, fear, shyness and societal constraints by intentionally communicating who they are through the way they dress. They show us how to be totally visible in the world, connecting with others through clothes and finding great joy, happiness and freedom expressing their unique selves. A beautiful book in so many ways. Fashion has a voice and it has no boundaries. Thank you Robbie.
